Course aims
The aims of this online Falls Prevention - Level 1 training course are to:
Improve patient safety in long-term care facilities by educating people on how to reduce their risk of falling and improve their balance.
Improve environmental safety for older adults in homes.
Learning objectives
On completion of this online Falls Prevention - Level 1 training course, the learner will be able to:
Recall causes of falls and risk factors for falls in the community setting
Assess a patient presented to the hospital after a fall in the community and give a differential diagnosis
Identify consequences of falls
Distinguish between a syncope and a fall
Decide when further investigation is necessary for someone who had a fall
Commence appropriate treatment, including pain relief
Describe the risk factors for inpatient falls and strategies that can be put in place to reduce them.
